Certified Ancient Greek Coins

rare and beautiful, our ancient Greek coin collection is the crown of the offerings here at Holdables.  Each coin is carefully examined and chosen for their unique artistry or characteristics.  Even coins not considered too rare, like an Alexander Tetradrachm, will find it's   way in our collection due to amazing artistry and eye appeal.  These special pieces, that are much more beautiful than most others, are very tough to find for the in our opinion.  Pieces with special characteristics, like exceptional artistry, great strike and original surfaces, are the key drivers of future value in ancient coins.

Amazing Zeus Portrait - Ionia Miletus Types of Alexander III Tetradrachm 3rd-2nd cent. BC

$2,750.00

This very well struck example of a popular tetradrachm from Miletus. The obverse features Alexander the Great. The artistry and strike is well done. The reverse, featuring Zeus, is one of the nicest portraits I've ever seen. The awesome facial features, balanced physique, and well feathered eagle, makes this particularly tetradrachm very special when compared to others of the same grade. Similar examples of amazing reverse portraits have sold for $10k+ and are in high demand.

Cilicia Tarsus Phamabazus AR Stater Stunning Portraits c.380 BC NGC Certified

$1,200.00

Spectacular portraits and artistry on this AR (silver) stater from Tarsus c. 380 BC. The ruler is noted as Phamabazus - this guy is one interesting dude.  You can read all about his military conquests. This coin would have been likely struck during his war campaign against Egypt. These coins are attributed to this period and their primary use was to pay for Greek troops during the conflict with Egypt. It is very likely this coin was handed to a Greek soldier during this historic time.

Amazing Boeotia, Thebes Greek Ancient Stater c. 380 BC. Super Strike and artistry!

$2,400.00

The Thebes "Shield" stater; although certainly not one of the most common staters, is a staple among collectors and these pieces have been in high demand now for many years. There is usually just a small handful on the market at any given time and even less in this grade. This piece is special due to its high grade, clean surfaces and amazing strike. The diameter of this stater is closer to that of an average Tetradrachm of the same period, while many others tend to be smaller. This piece is fairly unique and NGC certified as shown in the photos. You always receive the exact coin shown upon purchase. As with all our inventory, if you can place it in your cart and purchase it, it is immediately available. Thank you.
