How we Determine the value of a portfolio

Wether you are investing in a Bronze or Gold portfolio, the same methodology applies.  We assess the value of each coin based on the following factors, many of which are subjective.

1.  Grade; as graded by a professional third party.  Accepted grading services for our portfolios are Numismatic Guaranteed Corporation, Professional Coin Grading Service and ANACS.  Grade is a subjective factor, even if guaranteed by a professional grading company.  Eye appeal often trumps actual grade on clean coins with no details noted other than chopmarks.  If you're not sure what we mean, it's okay.  You could take a look at this glossary of coin terms or take our word for it that this means we have your back.  Coins in our portfolio builder program will always be certified and "slabbed" and permanently held in a serial numbered transparent case.  Although about the same size, cases may differ from one another because each of the three main certification companies use their own proprietary case design and technology.

2.  Commonality and Rarity; Depending on your budget and investment goals, your Holdables portfolio may have coins that are both common and coins which are rare.  Some of the more common coins you may see, may be a common date gold eagle or Morgan Dollar.  We select coins like these, not because they are common dates with higher mintages, but because they all had excellent appeal and high grade and are readily traded, sold and bought.  You may have some more common coins in your portfolio for liquidity purposes.  These high grade common dates are much easier to sell than a super rare coin.  The rarer the coin, generally the smaller the market to sell that coin; which is why we ask you questions.  Not to worry, if your portfolio includes some rare or common coins, we've already had done the tough work to determine it's currently well marketable.  We also tend to stick to mid-range rarities as to not limit marketability in the future.

3.  We will perform price comps from international auction houses such as, but not limited to Christie's and Heritage Auctions.  In cases where the rarity prevents recent comps, we will look at the closest next comparable of issue and style.

Don't forget.

You may also shop for individual coins and medals.  Yes, although the majority of our coins and medals are reserved for the portfolio builder program, we frequently add to our online coin shop where you may purchase directly through our secured shopping cart using a major credit/debit card.  These coins are often not encapsulated like our portfolio Holdables, nor are they graded by a third party unless otherwise noted.  We will give you our honest and professional opinion of our coins/medals; furthermore, all coins and medals are guaranteed to be authentic.
